Business and Retail Consultant / Coach Pierre R. Cliche

Dealing with Box Store Competition

Local businesses can compete and prosper in a market which has become inundated by multinational companies and Box Store retailers.  Success will depend on the ability and willingness of local business owners and their staff to meet and adapt to the challenges and opportunities of this new marketplace.  To be competitive on price and product selection is no longer sufficient.  Managing change effectively will help local businesses deal successfully with the arrival of Big Box Stores in their neighbourhood.

Pierre Cliche's retail experience as a VP of a multinational company (Kmart Canada Ltd) and as a small business owner (Home Decor Furnishings Inc.) provides his clients with a unique insight into both worlds. He believes that much can be done on the part of local businesses to deal successfully with Box Stores and offers two kinds of services:

  1. Evaluation of the current retail situation in the local business community as a whole.
Through group seminars, Pierre examines the opportunities of the local business community prior to the arrival of the "added competition" or can advise on action that can be taken if the competition has already arrived.  He works together with the business community to create new ideas to allow all stores to compete successfully.  A desire to adapt to change on the part of the entire community is essential.

  2. Working with local businesses one on one.
This service requires a different approach.  Pierre will review individual store specifics taking into consideration past performance, the status quo and expected future results.  He leaves no stones unturned.  Following this extensive review, a plan of action is developed to capture market share or re-capture it in case it has been lost.
